If you're a Marmite-lover, these savoury snacks will be a treat for you. Otherwise, not so much.
Prep
Grate the cheese. I've specified mature cheddar but you can use any cheese as long as it has a strong flavour and melts well.
Assemble the swirls
Unroll your puff pastry and spread it thinly with Marmite or other yeast extract. Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly all over. Roll up the pastry from the long edge. Cut the resulting sausge into slices about 2 cm (just under an inch) wide.
Bake the swirls
Heat your oven to 180° Celsius (356° Fahrenheit) for a fan/convection/airfryer oven, or 200° Celsius (392° Fahrenheit) for a conventional one, or gas 6. Line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper. Stand the slices on edge on the tray and paint the outsides with beaten egg. Place the tray in the oven and bake for 25 minutes.
