
This dish features a basic British-style chilli con carne sauce - it's very mild and has nothing much to do with American versions. The chilli is layered with sliced potato, topped with cheese and is pure comfort food.

500 grams minced beef
200 grams leftover cooked pork or beef (optional)
400 grams canned chopped tomatoes
400 grams canned mixed beans
1 medium onion
1 small carrot
1 stick of celery
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp mild chilli powder
1 tsp salt
small handful of fresh coriander
500 grams potatoes
3 tbsp coarse breadcrumbs
75 grams grated cheeseFor the canned beans you can use red kidney beans if you like, but I prefer a mixture and the brand I buy comes in a slightly spicy tomato sauce. You'll need some oil for sautéeing.
